Gaslamp Quarter - a 5-block area that is teaming with shops, restaurants, old restored buildings, music clubs, and night life. Named after the old gaslamps that still line the streets.
Embarcadero - a relaxing waterfront venue for concerts and other entertainment.
Seaport Village - a relaxing waterfront venue with shops and restaurants.

San Diego Padres, Downtown (Petco Park) - new (2004) baseball stadium near the Gaslamp Quarter.

Del Mar Racetrack and Thoroughbred Club - Where the Turf meets the Surf. A variety of events occur yearound at Del Mar. The famous horse-racing venue is during 6 weeks in August and September.
